Located at Marina del Cantone, one of the most beautiful beaches on this stretch of coastline, situated in a romantic bay sheltered by the Tre Pizzi promontory. Here, you’ll find the Taverna del Capitano, where the Casa Caputo dining room near the entrance serves simple, traditional cuisine, while the Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant boasts a rooftop setting where guests dine overlooking the beach with the sound of the waves as a backdrop. In the open-view kitchen behind the tables, Alfonso Caputo prepares dishes based on local fish, as well as the occasional meat option, all of which have a Mediterranean flavour and a focus on the region’s extraordinary ingredients.

Hidden treasure. We could not be happier while staying in the Amalfi coast. A gorgeous and quiet little hotel, ran by the family. Amazing restaurants with fantastic food and wine selection, friendly, polite and attentive service. Clean rooms with a beautiful view over the sea. Highly highly recommended!

Amazing hotel. We stayed in the off season so the city was pretty quiet, which is why we went there. Staff were so nice and the hotel was incredible. Wish we had more time to eat at their restaurant since it was closed one of the days we were there.

I have eaten at La Taverna del Capitano a couple of times, in the old venue. Now it has changed and it is on an open terrace. The view and location is beautiful. Appetizers were good and imaginative; spaghetti alla nerano good but in a portion which was far too small. Babà was the best I have ever tried, I don’t generally like it but this was excellent. The other desserts not at the same level. In every occasion however I found the service not adequate for the level of the restaurant, with a way of addressing customers which, in particular as a woman, I found far too old fashioned, biased and not suitable for an international clientele nor modern times. This clashes too much with the sophisticated restaurant that it aims at being and it made be very uncomfortable.

To be clear, we ended up NOT eating at this restaurant for dinner. So, normally I would never write a review, but the interactions with the staff in the 10-20min we had were so awful and baffling i decided to share. 5 of us walked into the restaurant dressed for dinner and asked about a table for a large group. We wanted to confirm that was okay even though the restaurant was 80% empty looking in. The staff was rude and speaking down to us from the get go, which was off putting. We ended up getting a table for 5 and they served us water, but there was a misunderstanding with our group and we wanted to eat at a different restaurant. Totally understand this is annoying, but things happen and we were apologetic and polite about it. When we tried to explain that we didn't want to order anything and wanted to leave (we paid for the water) the man there began shouting at our party. Not an exaggeration, this man raised his voice to yelling, and then proceeded to literally shoo us with his arms as we exited out the door. It couldn't have been a pleasant interaction for the few other customers eating there. The staff was so rude and condescending from the very get go and then continued to prove themselves as such throughout our short interaction. Normally I wouldn't question this, but it felt very pointed that we were treated this way when 3/5 of our group was non-white (east Asian, black, and Indian) and they had a blatantly blackface statue decorating their restaurant. Also note that one of our group was raised their entire life in Europe, another of us spoke Italian, and several of us have lived abroad, so I don't think our behavior or expectations were so out of place as to deserve that treatment. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, no matter how good the food is, as a POC or ally to POC I would never feel comfortable here or would want to spend my money with them.
