Stari Mlini is Restaurant is family-owned and operated for almost 50 years. We grow our produce in our garden. We source what we don’t grow—ingredients, fish, and meat—daily from our next-door neighbors and other local families.

In the 1700s, Stari Mlini served as a family-operated flour mill, catering to the local community of the charming medieval town of Kotor, Montenegro.

Fast forward 300 years, our family has transformed this historic mill into a captivating restaurant, exuding a fairytale-like charm. For over four decades, Stari Mlini Restaurant has been renowned for providing an exceptional, yet relaxed fine dining experience of the utmost quality. As we continue to evolve, we now extend a warm welcome to guests arriving by sea, offering yacht and boat docking facilities in our restaurant marina.

Stari Mlini is a special place that holds personal significance for me, as I remember visiting this charming restaurant during my first trip to Montenegro as a child. Remarkably, the place hasn’t changed much since then, and that’s part of its enduring charm. Nestled by the water with its rustic setting and historical ambiance, the restaurant still offers the same enchanting atmosphere that I fell in love with all those years ago. The setting is absolutely breathtaking—surrounded by nature, with views of the watermill and lush greenery. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel at peace while indulging in some truly remarkable food. The picturesque environment is perfect for a romantic meal or a special occasion. The attention to detail in the décor and how the natural beauty has been integrated into the restaurant design is part of what makes Stari Mlini so unique. As for the food, it’s nothing short of marvelous. My first experience with baked octopus here was unforgettable—the dish was cooked to perfection, with tender and flavorful meat. The freshness of the seafood is unmistakable, and the flavors are beautifully balanced. That said, Stari Mlini is undeniably on the expensive side, so you should be prepared to spend a bit more for the quality and experience. However, I find that the food and the setting make it absolutely worth it. On this recent visit, my fiancée was keen to try an octopus and finally have her first experience with a raw oyster, something she had always wanted to do but had never found the right place to try. The octopus was delicious as expected, but unfortunately, the raw oyster didn’t agree with her. A few hours after eating it, she started to feel unwell, and we eventually had to visit a clinic. While I don’t blame the restaurant for this—raw seafood always carries some risk—it’s a reminder that trying new delicacies, particularly raw ones, can be unpredictable. Whether the oyster was off or she had a reaction to the high protein intake that day, it’s hard to say. It’s just something to be mindful of when ordering raw dishes. Despite this incident, I have to emphasize how wonderful the place is. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, the food is consistently excellent, and the whole experience feels like a slice of Montenegrin magic. I still wholeheartedly recommend Stari Mlini for its beautiful ambiance, top-notch service, and superb cuisine—just be cautious when trying raw seafood. If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Montenegro, Stari Mlini is definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared to pay for the quality, and take extra care when ordering raw items from the menu.

Stari Mlini is one of the most remarkable and largest restaurants I have visited in Montenegro. Situated right by the sea, it offers stunning views and a beautiful natural setting. I was thoroughly impressed by this restaurant. The service was exceptionally professional, and the fish menu was outstanding. During my visit, I noticed that they raise some of their fish in pools on-site, which speaks to their commitment to quality and freshness. However, there was one minor issue worth mentioning. I requested a 500-gram fish, but the waiter brought a 700-gram fish without informing us beforehand. Despite this small oversight, my overall experience was excellent. If you are visiting Kotor, I highly recommend dining at Stari Mlini. The combination of the breathtaking location, superb service, and delicious food makes it a must-visit destination.

We had a great time there. Due to season and our early arrival, we were the only clients there. The atmosphere was fantastic and we relaxed there. The personnels were kind and smiling. We loved here 💙💙💙💙

Amazing location and lovely fresh fish. We shared a massive fresh sea bass cooked in a salt bake, it was yummy. Beautiful gardens, bridges and lots of flowing water. Definitely go check it out if you are in the area and turn up by boat as it has its own pier.

Great location, nice ambiance, but... ... it is mostly touristic and unnecessarily expensive. I dont pity my money spent when I get good results. Here we ate a salad with simple ingredients, and only 2 pieces of cherry tomatoes, and a little bit of cheese they added. A Salad for 13 euro, you can do much better. Octopus was normal, but for 78 euro it might have been better. Service is fast but they already have enough of customers so they dont care.. It is in a kind of forest, next to a river joining sea. So be prepared for some flies, ants, mosquitos and bugs to interfere your meal. There are much better locations to eat around..
